Rowdy Rolls in Radford

The Superstar Racing Experience made its first trip to the Pulaski County Motorsports Park in Radford Virginia on Thursday night. Two-time NASCAR Cup Champion Kyle Busch took the checkered flag in his first race in the series after leading a majority of the second half of the main event, while Marco Andretti and Clint Bowyer took heats one and two, respectively.

Busch took the lead on the 57th lap out of 100 but did so rather controversially. He first doored four-time Indy 500 champ Helio Castroneves to move to third, before doing a similar move on Tony Stewart for second.

When he approached Brad Keselowski for the lead, he tried to replicate the move a third time but wound up spinning the 2012 Cup Series Champion in the first turn. Busch never looked back from there, and Keselowski rebounded for a fourth-place finish.

With less than 10 laps left in the main event, Paul Tracy cut off Josef Newgarden on the front stretch and triggered a multi-car accident involving Ken Schrader and Hailie Deegan. Schrader, who had a run-in with Tracy at Stafford in week one, was livid after he exited his car. “I’m not running another race with [Tracy]…I’m done,” Schrader said in his ESPN interview following the incident.

The SRX travels north to Michigan next Thursday night at the Berlin Speedway for the fourth and final pavement race of the season. With the season winding down and tempers heating up, we’re poised for an interesting second half of the season.
